| THE "MAGIC" TRICK USED BY EXPERIENCED EXPERTS . Sodium bisulfite (aka sodium metabisulfite and "oxygen bleach") is a strong, generic reducing agent.* Bisulfite is used to "bleach" or remove many discolorations from olefin and nylon carpets. Especially those stubborn spots caused by coffee, tea, etc. Also, it often takes out many “non-removable" spots such as furniture stains, urine, food dyes and other reactive conditions that occur with problem carpets. For tough dye stains, make a strong solution and saturate the spot. Allow to dwell for at least 20 minutes. If nylon carpets are "damaged" and the original dyes are not stable you may take out some of the original color also. Stay away from cotton, wool, rayon and any other natural, damaged or delicate yarns or fabrics because bisulfite is too strong and will over-whiten or pull original colors. NEVER MIX BISULFITE WITH OTHER CHEMICALS OR CLEANING PRODUCTS. Many people are sensitive to Sodium metabisulfite and can not breath freely for hours so be sure there are no customers or bystanders around the area before using it in large quantities or in a confined space. You are advised to wear a face mask or respirator also. . Always pretest when in doubt. In the hands of an experienced technician, this chemical is the most valuable restoration tool available. Bisulfite is a generic chemical, we add nothing and we sell it in larger sizes at wholesale prices. * Reducing agent means that chemically it takes electrons away from the mixture where an oxidizing agent adds electrons to a mixture. |
